Application integration has been undertaken in a number of ways, including:

• Custom code
• Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
• Sun JavaCaps (for HL7 integration)
• HL7Connect

HL7 (or Health Language 7) is the mechanism of choice for transfer of hospital (patient, episode, test results etc) data between applications. We have used integration engines (such as JavaCaps and HL7Connect) as well as developing our own code library to implement HL7 messages and processing.
